Holiday Season: Protect Your Immune System While Travelling

Whether you're embarking on a trip of a lifetime, a short city break or even just some family fun in the sun, make sure to look after yourself.

The whole process of travelling can make a significant impact on your immune system. From being exposed to germs on the plane through to trying new good on foreign shores, we've got everything you need to make sure you are fully prepared for your trip.

Stay healthy and enjoy your summer to the max with these handy immune-supporting tips from the Made4 Vitamins team!

Prioritise Sleep

In the lead up to your holiday and even while you’re away, take the opportunity to enjoy your rest. There’s a direct correlation between poor sleep and a weakened immune system, so give your body the time it needs to rest and recuperate while you’re away.

Tuck Into Healthy Food

Wherever you’re going, you’ll want to try the local cuisine. If you’re lucky enough to be going somewhere where delicious fruits and vegetables grow then be sure to include these in your routine. When you’re travelling, having a healthy immune system helps ward off bugs, so it’s always a good idea to keep your body stocked up on any tasty natural produce you can get your hands on!

Stay Hydrated

Keeping your body well hydrated is always important, but it becomes even more vital when you're on holiday in a warmer climate. Ensure you drink plenty of water throughout the day, aiming for at least 5/1.2 litres as recommended by the NHS.

If you're in the sun, you should try and increase this to at least 1 cup/0.25 litres every 20 minutes. It's also a great idea to keep a bottle of water near your bed so you can drink during the night.

Focus On Hygiene

If the recent pandemic has taught us anything, it's the power of that little bottle of hand sanitiser in your bag! Whenever you're off out travelling, take your sanitiser with you and make use of any hand washing facilities before you sit to dine. Try to keep some space between yourself and others when you're on public transport to limit and potential bug transmission.

Take Your Supplements With You

When packing your bag, don't forget to include your daily supplements. If you already have a regime in place, then continue as normal while you are away. To make sure your immune system is extra protected, you might want to add some anti-inflammatories like ginger, turmeric and vitamin C.
